Breast cancer protection

A team at the Harvard School of Public Health, in the US, says carotenoid-rich vegetables offer some protection against the development of breast cancer in premenopausal women. Dr Laura Mignone and colleagues report in the International Journal of Cancer that higher levels of vitamin A, beta carotene, alpha carotene, and lutein/zeaxanthin reduce breast cancer risk in this group premenopausal women, but not in postmenopausal women.
